4-Day Gas Crisis Ahead Due to LNG Terminal Maintenance Work
The nation is bracing for a four-day gas shortage as maintenance and repair work begins at the LNG terminal in Maheshkhali.
In a press release issued on Thursday (January 9), Tariqul Islam Khan, Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) of Petrobangla, confirmed that RLNG supply from the Maheshkhali Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) will be suspended from Friday (January 10) at 12 noon to Monday (January 13) at 12 noon.
During this period, approximately 550 to 560 million cubic feet of gas per day will be supplied from an alternative FSRU, significantly reducing overall supply. The press release also warned that some areas might experience low gas pressure due to the shortage.
Petrobangla has apologized for the temporary inconvenience and sought consumers' understanding during this period.
Previously, from January 1 to January 4, RLNG supply from the LNG FSRU operated by Excelerate Energy in Maheshkhali was suspended for 72 hours due to maintenance and repair work. This resulted in a gas crisis across the country.
Before the effects of that crisis could fully subside, the LNG terminal needs to undergo maintenance again, which will cause another four-day nationwide gas crisis.
