Bangladesh Aims to Hold the Best Election in History: Chief Advisor
The interim government of Bangladesh is determined to organize the most successful and historic election in the nation's history, declared Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus.
Dr Yunus shared this plan during a meeting with Norway's Ambassador to Bangladesh, Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, at his office on Sunday (January 12).
"Our objective is to ensure the forthcoming general election becomes the most exemplary in Bangladesh's history, serving as a vital milestone for our democratic progress," stated Dr Yunus.
Emphasizing economic collaboration, Dr. Yunus encouraged the ambassador to increase Norwegian investments in Bangladesh. He proposed, "Utilize Bangladesh as a strategic hub for distributing Norwegian products across Asia. This approach can empower our youth and eliminate the need for personnel deployment from Norway."
Highlighting successful bilateral ventures, Dr Yunus referenced Telenor's first foreign investment in Grameenphone, which has grown into Telenor's most profitable enterprise globally.
During the meeting, Ambassador Gulbrandsen presented a letter from Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, expressing strong support for Bangladesh's interim government. The ambassador affirmed Norway's backing of Bangladesh's reform initiatives and commitment to holding free and fair democratic elections.
Additionally, Ambassador Gulbrandsen commended the interim government's dedication to human rights protection and environmental sustainability, reflecting Norway's shared priorities.
He further expressed Norway's interest in collaborating with Bangladesh in the ship recycling industry, transitioning to green energy, and engaging in international forums on global issues such as the Palestine conflict, international taxation, and plastic pollution.
Dr Yunus also sought Norway's assistance in addressing the ongoing Rohingya crisis amid Myanmar's evolving political landscape. He remarked, "Norway's extensive experience in peacekeeping makes your support invaluable in resolving the Rohingya crisis."
This meeting highlighted the strengthening of bilateral relations and shared commitment to democratic progress, economic collaboration, and humanitarian efforts between Bangladesh and Norway.
