A bomb threat message targeting a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight was sent from a Pakistani WhatsApp number. This information was disclosed on Wednesday (January 22) afternoon by sources at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

According to the source, the bomb threat was delivered to the official WhatsApp number of ASP Abdul Hannan, the duty officer of the Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn). The message claimed that 34 kilograms of explosives were onboard the flight traveling from Rome to Dhaka. It further stated that the explosives would be detonated after the flight landed at Shahjalal Airport. However, the message mentioned that it was issued as a precautionary alert, not as a direct threat.

Despite attempts to contact the sender through the provided number, no response was received. The source added that while phone calls were ignored, communication on WhatsApp continued, allowing authorities to stay informed and take necessary precautions. When questioned via WhatsApp about who had placed the explosives, the sender suggested that an opposing party might have done so to draw international attention.

Following the threat, the airport authorities prioritized the safety of 250 passengers by arranging an emergency landing for the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight traveling from Rome to Dhaka. Simultaneously, all relevant personnel were placed on high alert.

Earlier, the BG-356 flight en route from Rome to Dhaka received the bomb threat and made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday. After landing, the passengers were moved to the terminal building, and immigration processes were temporarily suspended. Authorities conducted thorough searches of the aircraft, passengers' luggage, and belongings. However, no bombs, explosives, or suspicious items were found during the investigation.
