China Ready to Provide Hydrology Gears to Bangladesh: Envoy

China is ready to provide equipment to Bangladesh for the country’s capacity building at the hydrology sector.

Beijing will provide the assistance under the ‘Implementation Plan of the MoU on Exchange of Hydrological Information Sharing of the Yaluzangbu-Jamuna River signed Implementation Plan” that was signed between Bangladesh and China during the recent visit of Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain in Beijing.

This was revealed while Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen held a meeting with Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin at the foreign ministry on Monday, said a foreign ministry’s press release here today.

During the meeting, the Chinese Ambassador briefed the Foreign Secretary about the outcome of the first bilateral visit of Foreign Affairs Adviser to China on January 20 to 24.

The Chinese envoy lauded the outcome of the visit, which covers all the bilateral issues cooperation in health sector, economic sector, trade and investment sector, cultural sector and defense sector.

Signing of ‘Implementation Plan of the MoU on Exchange of Hydrological Information Sharing of the Yaluzangbu-Jamuna River’, decision of designating three topnotch Chinese hospitals in Yunnan province for the treatment of Bangladeshi patients and establishing one specialist Chinese hospital in Dhaka, opening Chinese cultural centre in Dhaka and Bangladeshi cultural centre in Beijing as the outcomes of the visit are the testament of strong commitment of the two friendly countries, said the envoy.

The Foreign Secretary expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for successfully organizing the visit and extending warm welcome and hospitality to the Foreign Adviser and his delegation.

He thanked the Chinese government for designating three renowned medical hospitals in Yunnan Province and expressed his hope that such cooperation in medical and educational sector, especially for technical and vocational education would help enhancing people-to-people connectivity.

In this regard, both sides underscored the need for hosting educational and medical fair in Dhaka so that more young Bangladeshis can avail Chinese education.

Regional and global issues also featured in the discussions, notably the ongoing Rohingya crisis.

The Foreign Secretary sought China’s continued support in ensuring early repatriation of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.
