Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, nobody of BNP is involved in August 21 grenade attack, the other leaders and activists including Tarique Rahman are implicated with political motivation.
He said these at a memorial meeting held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Tuesday. The meeting titled ‘want release of Khaleda Zia’ was organized on the occasion of 28th death anniversary of Shaheed Nazir Uddin Jehad.
Mirza Fakhrul said, the Awami League government has implicated the names of BNP leaders including Tarique Rahman, Abdus Salam Pintu and Lutfuzzaman Babar to harass them politically.
He said, to erase the name of Nationalist Party the other BNP leaders including Tarique Rahman were implicated in the August 21 grenade attack case. No BNP leader and activist are involved in this case.
Fakhrul said, after the incident BNP government filed case and took initiatives for investigation. Even FBI was brought. Later when the charge sheet was given during 1/11 government, there no name of BNP leader or Tarique Rahman was mentioned.
He said, 61 witnesses were questioned and none of them uttered the name of Tarique Rahman. But when the Awami League government came to power the whole situation changed. Kahar Akand was appointed as the new Investigation Officer to investigate the matter freshly. He lost his job during BNP rule.
