Action if fake news occurred: EC Secretary

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said, to prevent fake news and propaganda EC is getting stricter. In this case punitive measures will be taken including case filling under Digital Security Act against the people concerned with if fake news or propaganda is occurred.

He said these to the newsmen at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Sunday. Earlier he held meeting with the concerned authorities to find out solution for preventing fake news and propaganda in social media and online.

The EC Secretary said, administration has begun 24 hours monitoring. We will monitor from tomorrow. In this purpose a monitoring team of our own will be formed comprising officials of our ICT section. This team will work along with the administrative team. Besides there will be intelligence surveillance.

He said, decision was taken in the meeting for taking action so that social media cannot be misused centering the election or nobody can create propaganda. If anybody creates propaganda then legal action will be taken. Measures will be taken to aware people. In this purpose we will transmit advertisement.

Helal Uddin Ahmed also said, we have decided that nobody can create fake news regarding the election. Nobody can create fake news locally or internationally. We will take action against fake news.

Representatives from BTRC, Police, CID, RAB, intelligence agencies and departments were present in the meeting.
