Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said, on the day of vote casting in the eleventh national parliament election live telecast can be made from vote centers but it cannot be made from vote rooms. Photographs can be taken from the vote rooms.
He said these at a press conference at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Saturday.
The CEC said, on the day of vote casting journalists can take photographs from the rooms of the vote centers; but no live telecast will be allowed. Nobody can use mobile phone in the vote centers.
He said, there are some restrictions for collecting information for the journalists including the local and foreign observers in the upcoming general election. Live telecast can be made from the field and veranda of the voting centers. But no live will be allowed from the vote rooms of the vote centers.
He said, our main aim is to complete the election uninterruptedly. So the policies are changed a bit. Besides, we are requesting to keep it in mind that journalists should go in the vote centers in limited way.
Then the journalists wanted to know that each journalist represents one institution then how they will go there in limited way.
In response Election Commissioner Brigadier General Shahadat Hossain (retd) said, don’t misunderstand us. We think media as our power. But limited way is said for that so that there is no chaos. You will go but maintain the atmosphere of voting. Presiding Officers should be given honor.
Over local and foreign observers the CEC said, there are separate policies for local and foreign observers. We hope that they will abide by the rules.
About breaking election code of conduct he said, there are electoral committees, Returning Officers and Magistrates for that, they will take action.
The CEC also termed the incident of attack on Dr. Kamal’s motorcade as a criminal offense.
