Premiership for no more than two consecutive terms: Oikyafront

Jatiya Oikyafront, main opposition alliance, in its election manifesto, said that it will not allow anyone to become prime minister for more than two consecutive terms.

Oikyafront leader and also Gono Forun president Dr Kamal Hossain said this while unveiling its election manifesto ahead of December 30 general polls at a programme at Hotel Purbani International in Dhaka city on Monday morning.

The goal of the Oikyafront is not to rebuild the regime of one-party rule, ensure the safety of citizens’ life and freedom of expression of all.

It will stop the extrajudicial killings and disappearances and continue the trial of the war criminals, bring balance between the power of Prime Minister and President.

In the manifesto, it is also said that the anti-corruption commission will be allowed to work independently.

Moreover, there will be no age limit for access to government jobs other than police and military forces.

Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain, its spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, ASM Abdur Rob, Bangabir Kader Siddiqui, Jafarullah Chowdhury, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Dr. Nurul Amin Bepari were present, among others, in the programme.

BNP, Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, ASM Abdur Rob’s Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, and Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s Nagorik Oikya formed the Jatiya Oikyafront on October 13 ahead of the national polls slated for December 30.
