
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s adviser Dr Inam Ahmed Chowdhury joined Bangladesh Awami League on Wednesday.
Expressing his faith in the leadership of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Enam greeted the premier with a bouquet of flowers at her official Ganabhaban residence in the evening and formally joined the party, said PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokan.
Inam wanted to contest the 11th general election with BNP ticket from Sylhet 1 constituency.
Primarily, he was named in the party’s nomination list but he was left out finally.
During submission of nomination papers for Sylhet 1 seat on November 28, he visited the residence of Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith in Sylhet and the matter became talk of the city.
AKA Momen, brother of Muhith, is contesting the polls from this constituency.
Inam, the former bureaucrat, officially joined BNP in 1999. Although he was not seen active in regular party activities, he used to speak for BNP in different forums.
He was arrested once during the BNP's movement in 2013.
Inam, served as chairman of the Privatisation Commission during the BNP-led government.
