
Veteran politician TIM Fazle Rabbi Chowdhury, who was contesting the December 30 election from Gaibandha-3 (Palashbari-Sadullapur) constituency from Jatiya Oikyafront, has died at a city hotel in the early hours of Thursday. He was 84.
He died of cardiac arrest at 2am at United Hospital in the capital, said former president of Sadullapur Upazila BNP Shafiul Islam Swapan.
Fazle Rabbi Chowdhury was suffering from various diseases, including lung infection and high blood pressure, for a long time, he added.
Rabbi was elected Member of Parliament of the Jatiya Party in Gaibandha-3 constituency in 1986, 1988, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2008.
He was born on October 1 in 1934 in Talukjamira village of Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha.
Fazle Rabbi joined the Jatiya Party in 1984 and served as the political adviser to former President Hussein Muhammad Ershad.
He also served as Land Minister, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister and Establishment Minister.
