
Foreign Affairs Ministers and parliamentary speakers from neighboring South Asian countries—including India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan—have arrived in Dhaka to attend the funeral prayers (janaza) of former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, scheduled for today (Wednesday) at 2:00 pm.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka to pay his last respects, landing at 11:55 am aboard a special Indian Air Force flight. Representing Pakistan, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reached Dhaka at 10:45 am to attend the ceremony.
From Nepal, Foreign Minister Bala Nanda Sharma arrived in the capital shortly before midnight on Tuesday. Bhutanese Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel, arrived this morning and was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) by the Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh and high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Additionally, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at 1:00 pm, according to Dharmapala Weerakkody, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, thousands of mourners from across Bangladesh have converged on Manik Mia Avenue to attend the final rites. The vast gathering reflects a nation in mourning as it prepares to bid farewell to the three-time premier.
