The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organized a milad and prayer congregation on Friday to seek eternal peace for the soul of its chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Azad Mosque in Gulshan following the Asr prayers.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, along with Standing Committee members Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and other senior leaders and activists, participated in the congregation.

This central event followed a party directive issued on Thursday, which instructed units across the country to organize similar prayer sessions at their convenience on Friday.

Begum Khaleda Zia passed away on December 30, at 6 am while receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

She was laid to rest with full state honors on December 31, beside the grave of her husband Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

Her son, Tarique Rahman, personally performed the burial alongside family members, following a "Guard of Honor" tribute from the armed forces.

Her burial was preceded by a historic funeral prayer at Manik Mia Avenue, adjacent to the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building, which drew a massive turnout of millions of people.
