In a significant move to bolster military medical capabilities, Bangladesh and the United States have officially expanded their cooperation in the healthcare sector.
Major General E. Darrin Cox, Commanding General of the 18th Theater Medical Command, US Army Pacific, concluded a high-level five-day visit to Bangladesh from January 18 to 22, 2026.
During his stay, Major General Cox engaged with senior leadership of the Bangladesh Army Medical Forces to deepen strategic health ties and build future collaborative capacity.
The visit, which aligns with the objectives of the US Indo-Pacific Command, included critical meetings in Dhaka and field visits to Jalalabad Cantonment and the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Sylhet.
US Embassy spokesperson Poornima Rai noted that the mission was focused on building partner capacity in military healthcare.
The discussions and site visits have successfully laid the groundwork for upcoming joint exercises and professional exchanges across various specialized medical fields.
This engagement underscores the ongoing US commitment to a long-term defense and health partnership with Bangladesh, aiming to enhance regional readiness and medical expertise.
