The government has announced the names of nine distinguished individuals and one iconic music band for the prestigious Ekushey Padak 2026.

This award, the nation’s second-highest civilian honor, recognizes their exceptional contributions across various fields including arts, culture, education, and journalism.

The list was finalized during a meeting of the Council of Advisers on Thursday, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Following the meeting, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam shared the details during a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy.

Recipients of the Ekushey Padak 2026:

Farida Akhtar Babita – Film
Professor Md. Abdus Sattar – Fine Arts
Marina Tabassum – Architecture
Ayub Bachchu (Posthumous) – Music
Warfaze – Music (Band)
Arthy Ahmed – Dance
Islam Uddin Palakar – Theatre
Shafik Rehman – Journalism
Professor Dr. Mahbubul Alam Majumdar – Education
Tejosh Haldar Josh – Sculpture

In a historic move, the nomination of Warfaze marks the first time a rock band has been selected for this national honor. Additionally, the legendary late musician Ayub Bachchu is being recognized for his transformative impact on Bangladeshi music.

The Ekushey Padak is conferred annually by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to honor those who have significantly enriched the country's national identity and heritage.
