Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, has departed for Dhaka to represent his country at the official oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s new cabinet.

The ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, marks the formal commencement of the government led by Tarique Rahman as Prime Minister.

The Sri Lankan Minister was seen off at Colombo airport Monday morning by the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Andalib Elias.

Dr. Jayatissa’s attendance highlights the enduring diplomatic ties and friendly bilateral relations between the two South Asian nations.

The new administration follows a landslide victory for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the 13th National Parliament Election and the concurrent constitutional Referendum, held on last Thursday.

Tarique Rahman is set to assume the role of Prime Minister, succeeding the interim government that has managed the nation's transition since August 2024.

Reflecting on the transition, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam noted that the outgoing interim advisers remain "proud citizens" and will attend the historic ceremony.

Senior officials emphasized that the presence of international dignitaries underscores the significance of this democratic milestone for Bangladesh.
