
A high-level Indian delegation, led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-elect and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The delegation arrived at the Bangladesh Air Force Base via a special Indian Air Force aircraft.
Upon landing, Speaker Birla was received by the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, alongside Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md. Riaz Hamidullah and Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma.
Speaker Birla is representing New Delhi at the historic inauguration of the newly elected government.
According to a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, his participation underscores the "deep and enduring friendship" between the two nations and reaffirms a shared commitment to democratic values.
India has officially welcomed Bangladesh’s transition to an elected government under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, signaling a strong intent to enhance bilateral cooperation and regional stability in the coming years.
