Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon to attend the historic swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet led by Prime Minister-elect Tarique Rahman.

Upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the Bhutanese leader was received by Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.

The embassy stated that the Prime Minister’s presence at the ceremony reflects Bhutan’s unwavering support for the people of Bangladesh.

The two nations share a unique bond, as Bhutan was the first country to recognize Bangladesh's independence in 1971. This visit is viewed as a vital step in strengthening the "cordial ties" of mutual trust and confidence that define the Dhaka-Thimphu relationship.

Shortly after, Prime Minister Tobgay paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.

During the meeting, Tobgay expressed his gratitude and commended the Chief Adviser for successfully overseeing a "free, fair, peaceful, and credible" election during a pivotal chapter in Bangladesh's history.

The visit underscores the enduring friendship and diplomatic ties between the two nations as Bangladesh transitions to its newly elected government.
