Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have moved to significantly deepen their bilateral ties following high-level diplomatic meetings in London focused on trade, aviation, and multilateral cooperation.

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir held a pivotal session with UK Minister of State for Trade, Sir Chris Bryant MP, to explore new economic frontiers.

The discussions centered on unlocking investment in Bangladesh’s burgeoning blue economy, expanding the global footprint of the "Made in Bangladesh" brand, and fostering closer ties in the education sector.

Both nations committed to safeguarding investor interests and agreed to maintain strategic contact ahead of the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference scheduled for later this month in Cameroon.

In a separate engagement at the Bangladesh High Commission, UK Trade Envoy to Bangladesh Baroness Rosie Winterton of Doncaster met with the Bangladeshi delegation.

A primary focus of this meeting was the aviation sector, with both sides reviewing initiatives to transform Bangladesh into a prominent regional aviation hub.

The delegation also engaged with various stakeholders to discuss technical and infrastructural advancements for the country's airlines and airports.

The visit also touched upon international judicial cooperation as Professor Dapo Akande, the UK’s candidate for the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027-2036 term, presented his candidature to Minister Rahman and Adviser Kabir.

Reflecting on the positive history of collaboration in intergovernmental elections, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to supporting one another within multilateral forums.
