United Kingdom High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke on Thursday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam at his office in the Armed Forces Division, Dhaka Cantonment.

A four-member delegation led by the High Commissioner attended the meeting, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.

During the session, both sides exchanged greetings and held discussions on various opportunities to further enhance defence cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

They also explored strategic ways to maintain and strengthen the long-standing military ties between the two nations, the ISPR release added.

Earlier, Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and deepening their bilateral partnership during a high-level meeting in the capital.

The pledge was made as State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam met with UK Trade Envoy Baroness Rosie Winterton of Doncaster at a dinner hosted by British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke on Wednesday evening, according to a foreign ministry press release issued on Thursday.

The discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.

The engagement reflected a shared intent to bolster the longstanding partnership across key strategic sectors, the release added.
