Canada to Support Bangladesh’s Clean Energy Expansion

Canadian High Commissioner Ajit Singh reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s energy security and economic growth during a meeting with Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood on Monday.

The High Commissioner emphasized that Canada highly values its partnership with Bangladesh and is eager to assist in the expansion of reliable, affordable, and cleaner energy solutions.

He was joined by Senior Trade Commissioner Debra Boyce and Trade Commissioner Gulam Farhad Quazi to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and mutual interests in the energy sector.

A central focus of the discussion was the expansion of bilateral trade, which reached a milestone of USD 4 billion in 2025.

Both parties explored how Canadian expertise in renewable energy, innovative technologies, and specialized training could be further leveraged to modernize Bangladesh’s power infrastructure.

According to a statement from the Canadian High Commission in Dhaka, the meeting also touched upon deepening collaboration with Canadian partners to foster long-term prosperity.

This cooperation aims to build stronger economic ties while supporting environmental protection initiatives, such as the ongoing Rohingya response through the provision of clean cooking fuel.

The High Commission noted that Canada looks forward to building on this momentum to unlock deeper connections between the people and governments of both nations.
