A five-and-a-half-year-old kindergarten student named Eftin became the center of attention at the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal’s May Day rally in Nayapaltan on Friday by appearing dressed as the former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The child, who arrived from Old Dhaka with her mother, wore a saree styled after the iconic look of the BNP leader.

Speaking to a local media, the young girl expressed her admiration, saying, "I love Khaleda Zia. I want to grow up to be like her and serve the people of this country."

The rally, organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Workers Party to mark International Workers' Day, saw a massive influx of leaders, activists, and workers from across the capital and surrounding districts.

The program formally commenced around 2:30 pm, featuring Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman as the chief guest.

The gathering transformed the Nayapaltan area into a sea of red caps and T-shirts, with participants carrying banners and beating drums in a festive atmosphere.

Among the attendees was Akram Hossain from Mirpur, who noted that he joined the event specifically to hear the speech of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The event drew significant participation from neighboring districts, including Narayanganj, Gazipur, Manikganj, and Narsingdi. Processions began arriving from early morning, filling the streets with rhythmic slogans and applause.

To manage the large-scale gathering, the road from Fakirerpool to Kakrail was closed to traffic, necessitating the use of alternative routes for commuters.

Despite the road closures, organizers maintained special arrangements for emergency services, ensuring ambulances could navigate the area.

Additionally, the labor front set up free medical camps and mobile toilets to facilitate the comfort of the party activists and the general public attending the historic May Day celebration.
