Dhaka, Madrid Agree to Deepen Ties as Spanish Envoy Meets PM’s Adviser

Spain expressed a keen interest in expanding its investment and commercial footprints in Bangladesh, identifying manufacturing, renewable energy, infrastructure, and technology as key areas for deeper collaboration.

The interest was formally conveyed by the Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh María Sistiaga Ochoa de Chinchetru during a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir at the Prime Minister’s Office in the city’s Tejgaon area on Thursday.

During the high-level meeting, which was held in a cordial atmosphere, the two sides discussed comprehensive strategies to strengthen and diversify the friendly bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Spain.

Particular emphasis was placed on broadening cooperation across trade, investment, renewable energy, infrastructure development, tourism, agriculture, education, technology, and skilled human resource development.

The Spanish Envoy highly appreciated Bangladesh’s ongoing economic progress, its investment-friendly environment, and its strategic geographic location.

He detailed Spain’s interest in enhancing investment and business ties, especially in manufacturing sectors, renewable energy projects, infrastructure developments, and technology-based industries.

Furthermore, the Ambassador discussed opportunities for bolstering collaboration between the private sectors of both nations to unlock new avenues of trade and investment.

Welcoming the interest, Adviser Humaiun Kobir invited Spanish investors to explore emerging opportunities, highlighting the growing economic and development partnership between the two nations.

He stated that Bangladesh has emerged as a stable and promising destination for foreign investment and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a conducive environment for investors.

The Adviser underscored the vital importance of deepening economic cooperation to further boost bilateral relations and create mutually beneficial opportunities.

Concluding the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation on issues of mutual interest and expressed optimism about elevating Bangladesh-Spain relations to a new height.
