The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has launched a comprehensive, countrywide data gathering initiative targeting agricultural landholdings and smallholders to roll out the ‘Farmer Card’ scheme, a key initiative promised in the ruling government’s election manifesto.

According to an official institutional statement issued on Saturday, the registration and data tracking drive was set in motion concurrently across every single upazila in Bangladesh.

During this introductory phase, field teams will collect demographic and land metrics by selecting a single pilot block from each upazila, with plans to systematically scale up the tracking activities to cover all remaining farming blocks through a phased expansion schedule.

The press release further noted that the decision was finalized during the second high-level convention of the ‘Farmer Card Technical Working Committee,’ which took place at the Ministry of Agriculture on the very same day under the leadership of the Agriculture Minister, thereby authorizing the immediate and synchronized launch of these farmer and territory profiling operations across the nation's upazilas.
