Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said on Sunday that his administration is committed to transforming Bangladesh into a true welfare state through people-centric policies designed to elevate the standard of living for all citizens.

Addressing a large public gathering in Pakundia, Kishoreganj, following a fish fry release program at the Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat, the Prime Minister emphasized that his government’s primary mission is the collective prosperity of the nation.

“Our goal is to build a welfare state. That is why we are taking various measures for the welfare of the people. We have already started implementing different programmes, including the Family Card,” the Prime Minister stated, highlighting his government's proactive efforts to provide direct support to the public.

He expressed confidence that the development blueprints currently underway would yield significant benefits if executed effectively, and he encouraged citizens to uphold the mandate they delivered during the February 12 general election.

Reaffirming the Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) dedication to the populace, PM asserted, “The government was formed with the support of the people. You placed your trust in the BNP through that support. I want to make it clear: InshaAllah, maintain that trust. The BNP was with you, is with the people of Bangladesh and will remain with the people of Bangladesh.”

He further vowed that as long as the party exists, it would never pursue an agenda contrary to the national interest.

The Prime Minister took the opportunity to criticize the previous administration’s handling of the power and energy sector, attributing the nation’s ongoing utility crises to their “unplanned measures.”

He announced that the government is prepared to unveil a comprehensive 10-year strategy to resolve these energy challenges during the upcoming parliamentary session beginning on August 27.

Addressing concerns over national stability, PM Tarique Rahman urged the public to remain patient and exercise vigilance against agitators attempting to incite street disorder.

“A small number of people are trying to create disorder on the streets. If disorder is created on the streets, ordinary people suffer the most. Their businesses are affected, their jobs are affected and their livelihoods are disrupted. But those who create disorder benefit from it,” he warned.

He called upon the citizenry to take a collective pledge to resist any forces that aim to undermine national progress or obstruct public interest initiatives.

“Today, let us take an oath and pledge that those who work against the interests of the country, create disorder or obstruct various programmes taken in the public interest will be resisted by the people with all their collective strength,” he stated.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister noted that the public’s current aspirations—peace, the rule of law, sustainable employment, quality education, and accessible healthcare—remain his administration's top priorities.

Local lawmaker Fazlur Rahman and other party leaders were in attendance as the Prime Minister concluded his visit to the region.
