Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced on Saturday that monetary incentives have been enhanced for citizens supplying tips that result in the seizure of stolen and unlawful armaments, marking part of heightened measures aimed at retrieving such weapons.

The minister cautioned that law enforcement officers who do not achieve anticipated advancements inside the designated schedule regarding the suppression of terrorism, extortion and narcotics offenses will encounter rigorous legal and departmental consequences.

The minister articulated these statements while addressing a press conference subsequent to participating as the principal guest at the Quarterly Crime Review Conference covering the second quarter of April to June 2026, which was arranged by Police Headquarters at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium located in Rajarbagh.

Under the newly restructured incentive framework, tipsters will obtain up to BDT 2 lakh for intelligence resulting in the confiscation of heavy weaponry, whereas individuals furnishing details regarding handguns, revolvers, or shotguns will be compensated up to BDT 50,000, the minister stated.

Furthermore, citizens delivering intelligence that facilitates the retrieval of sound grenades, plundered tear-gas munitions, and alternative looted armaments will collect payouts of BDT 10,000, BDT 15,000, or BDT 20,000, contingent upon specific conditions, according to the minister.

He guaranteed that the personal identities of all informants will remain strictly guarded and confidential.

Salahuddin noted that the administration is consistently formulating strategic blueprints to elevate the nation's public safety environment to the targeted standard and elevate the reputation of the police force by transforming the agency into a citizen-friendly entity.

He mentioned that a specialized unit has already been established in collaboration with diverse intelligence directorates to accelerate operations targeted at recovering plundered and unlawful guns.

Salahuddin stated that weaponry carrying revoked licenses that failed to be deposited prior to the mandatory deadline have officially been classified as illicit firearms with legal cases already lodged, while ongoing sweeps to retrieve them persist.

He supplemented that specialized tactical campaigns are underway nationwide alongside intelligence backing to combat illegal armaments, narcotics, smuggling rings, and extortion.

Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir presided over the conference, whereas Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manzur Morshed Chowdhury spoke as a special guest.

Additional IGP for Crime and Operations Khandaker Rafiqul Islam presented the opening remarks, with Additional IGP for Administration AKM Awlad Hossain, among various others, in attendance.

Over the course of the session, the minister addressed multiple inquiries originating from range DIGs, metropolitan police commissioners and additional commissioners, along with district superintendents of police (SPs), while engaging in a comprehensive exchange of perspectives.
