President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir asserted on Sunday that democratic institutions must be thoroughly institutionalized and the local governance framework reinforced to solidify the foundations of democracy.
He delivered these remarks during an afternoon audience at Bangabhaban when administrators representing 33 district councils convened for a formal meeting, as briefed to a local media by President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam.
Characterizing local government as the primary bulwark and strength of a democratic society, the President directed the district council administrators to remain highly active and vigilant in dismantling the legacy of corruption bequeathed by the fallen fascist regime.
Throughout the deliberations, the district council administrators formally presented several demands to the President, chief among them being the enhancement of their official status and administrative standing.
Mirza Fakhrul offered assurances that prompt measures would be initiated to address their grievances, emphasizing that the incumbent administration operates fundamentally as a government of the people.
He further noted that the state apparatus is prioritizing the reinforcement of decentralized local governance as a cornerstone of its broader strategy to diffuse administrative authority.
The President expressed profound gratitude while recalling the vital role played by the district council administrators in reclaiming democracy and sustaining the protracted struggle against authoritarianism.
Additionally, he provided the administrators with essential strategic directives aimed at accelerating regional development projects, optimizing grassroots citizen services, and upholding rigorous administrative transparency.
