Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday distributed financial grants to the relatives of two military personnel who tragically lost their lives due to a shell explosion during a tank live-fire drill at the Hathazari Field Firing Range located in Chattogram.

He further gave assurances to the grieving households that both the state administration and the Bangladesh Army will continuously offer backing and remain steadfastly by their side.

According to a statement issued by Prime’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu, the Prime Minister welcomed the relatives to his Tejgaon office this morning and conveyed his heartfelt condolences regarding the fatal incident.

The gathering was attended by the Prime Minister's spouse, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, alongside Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman and other high-ranking military officials.

Paying tribute to the fallen soldiers, Tarique Rahman remarked, “Serving the country, our soldiers have sacrificed their lives. They have become martyrs for the country. The nation will remember their sacrifice with profound respect.”

Addressing the mourning relatives directly, he stated, “We are with you and will remain by your side in this time of grief. The government and the Army will always stand by your families. Alongside providing necessary assistance, the government will also fulfil its responsibility to look after the families of the martyred soldiers.”

Following these remarks, the Prime Minister personally presented financial aid cheques to the families of the deceased servicemen.

In addition to this support, the military will spearhead construction projects to build permanent residences for each family at their respective hometowns, alongside arranging employment opportunities for the widows and securing monthly stipends for the children.

The tragic mishap occurred on September 09, claiming the lives of two Bangladesh Army soldiers—Abu Bakar Siddique and Md Tasnim Riafat—while leaving a military officer critically wounded during armored gunnery exercises at the Chattogram firing range.

The family members of Abu Bakar Siddique who attended the office meeting included his wife Suraiya Akter Juthi, young daughter Fatema Siddika, father Abdul Wahab, and mother Parvin Akter.

Meanwhile, the delegation representing Md Tasnim Riafat comprised his wife Fahmida Afrin, daughter Rafsa Tasnim Ifra, and father Md Asadul Haque.
