President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized on Thursday that uncompromising priority must be accorded to competence and merit across all university spheres—particularly faculty recruitment—to elevate academic standards and scholarly research output.

"Competence and merit must be given the highest priority in all areas, including teacher recruitment, to further improve the quality and excellence of education and research at universities," he observed.

The address was delivered during a courtesy meeting at Bangabhaban with Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, as outlined in a briefing by President's Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam to a lcoal media.

Over the course of the interaction, the JU vice-chancellor provided an overview of the institution's comprehensive academic portfolio, research output, and educational operations.

He also formally extended an invitation to the President—serving in his capacity as Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University—to preside over the institution's upcoming convocation slated for April next year.

Accepting the proffer, the President conveyed keen enthusiasm for attending the ceremony.

The dialogue concluded with participation from secretaries of the President's Office.
