
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated a three-day housing fair on Monday marking World Habitat Day 2026.
The Prime Minister launched the exhibition at the lobby of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre following his attendance at a discussion session organized to observe World Habitat Day this morning.
The fair showcases 157 stalls representing the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), the building construction sector, banking and financial services, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), the Department of Architecture, the Public Works Department, urban planning entities, alongside various auxiliary departments and agencies operating under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
Following the formal ribbon-cutting, PM Tarique Rahman toured various stalls where he was briefed on the ongoing operations and services offered by private housing and construction organizations as well as state bodies.
He subsequently inscribed his comments in the official visitors' book at the venue.
Earlier in the morning, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works hosted a thematic discussion observing World Habitat Day 2026 under the banner "Universal Housing, Sustainable Urbanisation".
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed the gathering as its chief guest.
During the proceedings, the Prime Minister unveiled the official cover of a commemorative publication published in honor of World Habitat Day.
In his address, PM Tarique Rahman underscored the imperative of guaranteeing safe, affordable, and quality housing options for every citizen while advancing systematically planned and sustainable urban development.
The event was chaired by Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher, with speeches delivered by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, Housing and Public Works State Minister Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Carol Flore-Smereczniak, and Ministry Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman.
The gathering brought together cabinet ministers, state ministers across various portfolios, advisers to the Prime Minister, special assistants, and high-ranking government functionaries.
Prior to the formal proceedings, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman planted a 'Golden Champa' sapling on the grounds of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
