President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has appealed to the public to approach individuals dealing with mental health issues with compassion and dignity while stressing the vital necessity of securing adequate mental healthcare alongside familial and community support.
"I call for strengthening mental health awareness activities at health centres and educational institutions, alongside public and private initiatives, to ensure the overall mental well-being of all citizens," he stated.
In an official message released on Friday on the eve of World Mental Health Day 2026, set for observance on Saturday, the President commended the national initiative to commemorate the occasion in harmony with global observances.
"Mental health is an essential component of overall well-being, working capacity and quality of life," he remarked, noting that shifting international dynamics, financial instability, societal turmoil, isolation, substance abuse, familial and professional stress, and various day-to-day pressures are deeply affecting public psychological health.
"Therefore, mental well-being is as important as physical health," he affirmed.
Characterizing this year's central theme—'Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change'—as both opportune and meaningful, the President highlighted that it underscores the necessity of hearing those who directly navigate mental health struggles and incorporating their insights into policy formulation and service structure.
He noted that the administration has launched multiple programs aimed at expanding mental healthcare access and embedding it within primary medical services.
Furthermore, the President pointed out the pivotal responsibility held by families and local communities in spotting psychological distress early and facilitating proper medical assistance.
He additionally emphasized the imperative of fostering public awareness to encourage reliance on legitimate medical treatment rather than superstitious remedies or other non-scientific measures.
Concluding with the expectation that unified endeavors will foster a mentally resilient and industrious society, the President conveyed his best wishes for the success of all initiatives organized for World Mental Health Day 2026.
