Two crude bombs were hurled outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka’s Tejgaon late Friday night.
One of the devices detonated, while the other was safely recovered by the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The incident took place at around 1:15 AM on Saturday (October 10). DMP Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ibne Mizan briefed reporters at the scene around 2:30 AM following an initial inspection.
He stated that two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle hurled the explosive devices before fleeing the spot.
One crude bomb exploded upon impact, while the second was retrieved and neutralised by the bomb disposal team.
Upon receiving the news, police officers from the Tejgaon Division rushed to the site and launched an immediate investigation.
DC Ibne Mizan further noted that no splinters were found inside the recovered object, adding that it resembled a basic firecracker-type explosive substance.
When asked about potential security lapses in such a high-security zone adjacent to the Prime Minister’s Office, the police official explained that the perpetrators avoided the main thoroughfare and used a connecting link road to launch the attack.
While heavy security is maintained along the primary roads, the attackers took advantage of an alternative route, he added.
Assuring swift action, the official emphasized that the police are treating the incident with the utmost priority and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
