Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday affirmed that the government is implementing concrete policies and actionable plans to guarantee the education, security, dignity, and a promising future for girls.
“The incumbent government is committed to ensuring that no girl’s dreams are cut short by economic constraints, insecurity or discrimination,” he declared in an official message released on the eve of National Girl Child Day 2026, which will be observed tomorrow.
The theme designated for this year’s observance is “No More Child Marriage, Girls Will Conquer the World.”
The Prime Minister emphasized that every girl, empowered through education, skills, and self-belief, ought to have equal avenues to realize her full capabilities.
He stressed that establishing a secure environment where every girl can develop and pursue her ambitions without hindrance remains a fundamental responsibility of the state.
Recalling the pioneering efforts of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia toward female education, PM Tarique Rahman highlighted that she had introduced tuition-free schooling for girls up to Class XII.
Expanding upon that foundation, he noted that the current administration has extended free educational opportunities for women through the postgraduate level.
The Prime Minister observed that women’s political and economic empowerment remains intrinsically connected to fostering a protective and encouraging atmosphere for the girl child.
As part of measures to bolster women’s economic independence, the government is issuing the ‘Family Card’ under the names of female heads of households.
Furthermore, comprehensive initiatives have been undertaken to enhance education, healthcare, nutrition, and social safety nets for girls and women.
PM Tarique Rahman reiterated the government's resolve to cultivate a society where every girl can travel freely, learn, speak out, and express her perspectives without apprehension.
“Families, society, educational institutions and the state must work together to protect girls’ safety, dignity and rights in both physical and digital spaces,” he stated.
Underlining that education, affection, rights, and equitable opportunities for girls are indispensable for constructing a healthy, educated, and progressive nation, the Prime Minister added, “We want the birth of a girl child to be a blessing for the family . . . the current government is working tirelessly to build a state and society where a girl’s education is never interrupted for any reason and where she can move forward according to her own choices and capabilities.”
The Prime Minister urged intensified collective action to eradicate child marriage and every form of discrimination, thereby ensuring a safe, equitable, and hopeful trajectory for all girls.
He extended his warm greetings and sincere congratulations to every girl child, their parents and guardians, and the citizens of the country on the occasion of National Girl Child Day.
