Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday extended greetings to the Hindu community in Bangladesh and around the globe on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja, one of their primary religious festivals.
In a message issued on Friday, he noted that, as per Hindu beliefs, Goddess Durga descends to earth from heaven for the global welfare, guaranteeing the well-being of her devotees while annihilating evil forces and nurturing creation.
"The destruction of evil forces and the worship of truth and beauty have given a unique significance to Sharadiya Durga Puja," he stated.
The Prime Minister observed that people belonging to diverse faiths, groups, and communities across the nation would celebrate their respective religious festivals with immense enthusiasm.
He remarked that the celebration of such religious occasions reflects the charm of Bangladesh's long-standing religious and social values alongside its cultural heritage.
Furthermore, he emphasized that friendship, harmony, goodwill, and brotherhood among citizens of varied religions, groups, and communities as Bangladeshis are demonstrated through religious, cultural, and social endeavors.
Tarique Rahman said, "Equality, human dignity and social justice are fundamental to all religions, while the welfare of humanity is one of their principal teachings."
He added, "Therefore, alongside practising their respective religious beliefs and cultures, it is essential for everyone to maintain an atmosphere of peace in society through mutual respect, honour and compassion among people."
Highlighting the nation's political transition, the Prime Minister pointed out that Bangladesh has once again set out on the path to democracy after overthrowing fascist rule at the expense of thousands of lives.
He shared that a grand effort to reconstruct the country has commenced, stressing the administration's pledge to build a welfare-focused, secure, and compassionate Bangladesh for every citizen, regardless of political affiliation, religion, or ethnicity.
"May our diverse society and outlook on life be enriched by the message of harmony and amity. Religion belongs to individuals, while the state belongs to all. Everyone has the right to security, regardless of religion," he stated.
Addressing members of the Hindu community, the Prime Minister called upon them to observe the festival nationwide with enthusiasm, happiness, and assurance, free from fear and in complete safety.
He concluded his message by reiterating his warm greetings to the Hindu community on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
