Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the "Bangladesh Solar Expo 2026" today.
He will inaugurate the two-day event, being organized for the first time in the country, at 10:30 AM on Tuesday (November 3) at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital's Agargaon.
Earlier, on Sunday (November 1), Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud announced the schedule during a press conference at Biddut Bhaban.
He stated that the exhibition will be held on November 3 and 4 under the theme: "Utilize Every Inch of Your Roof, Boost Income from Solar Power." The expo will remain open to all visitors.
The minister added that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the expo and tour the various stalls.
The Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, in collaboration with the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), is hosting the event for the first time.
During the expo, four seminars will be conducted covering key aspects of solar energy, including its nationwide expansion, increasing the share of solar power in the national energy mix, and encouraging the public to install solar panels on rooftops and unutilized land, the minister informed.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit noted that the government is working to reduce power shortages by 2030 and minimize public distress during the summer months.
Power Division Secretary Mirana Mahrukh, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Engr. Md. Rezaul Karim, alongside other senior officials, were present at the press conference.
The primary objective of the event is to support the implementation of the National Renewable Energy Development Strategy (2026–2030) and inform stakeholders about government policies and incentives designed to expand solar power.
Modern solar energy technologies will be showcased at the expo. Additionally, funding opportunities will be highlighted to foster effective connections and partnerships among investors, financial institutions, and entrepreneurs.
Policymakers, government agencies, development partners, financial institutions, technology suppliers, entrepreneurs, and general consumers are expected to participate.
Key topics within the renewable energy sector—including government incentives, modern eco-friendly technologies, tax and tariff benefits, green and climate financing, carbon credits, solar-powered irrigation systems, as well as training and skill development opportunities—will be highlighted at the exhibition.
