President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that ensuring a healthy, safe, and dignified life for the elderly is a responsibility of the state.

To this end, he called upon all relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Social Welfare, to establish a dedicated 'Senior Citizens Cell' and take appropriate initiatives.

He made these remarks on Tuesday (November 3) during a courtesy meeting at Bangabhaban with a 16-member delegation from the Bangladesh Senior Citizen Forum, led by its President, Ferdous Ara Begum.

During the meeting, members of the delegation presented several demands, including old-age allowances, a 50 percent discount on Metro Rail, trains, and public transport fares for citizens aged 65 and above, senior-friendly healthcare services, and a universal senior citizen card.

The President expressed solidarity with their demands and assured them of the necessary support.

The President's Military Secretary, Secretary, and Press Secretary were also present at the event.
