Prime Minister Tarique Rahman commented that the historic November 7, 1975, was a defining date in charting the path for Bangladesh. He emphasized that the revolutionary spirit of November 7 should serve as the inspiration and driving force for building the future of Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister made these remarks in a message issued on the occasion of the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
The government has announced a series of programs to observe the day. Simultaneously, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has also declared its own schedule of events.
In his message, the Prime Minister stated, "On this day in 1975, the nation's sepoys and general public unitedly thwarted all conspiracies against the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. In the history of our nation, the historic November 7 was a day to identify the enemies and allies of Bangladesh."
The Prime Minister noted that while it is not advisable to remain constantly obsessed with history, it is equally a historical blunder not to draw lessons from history while charting the path for the future.
He said, "I believe that the historic November 7, 1975, was a date of determination for Bangladesh's direction. Those who wanted to turn Bangladesh into a puppet state, those who usurped the democratic political rights of the people to establish a one-party autocratic rule, and those who sought to tarnish the glory of the armed forces—the symbol of the nation's valor, courage, and honor—were defeated on this day in 1975 through the historic revolution of the patriotic sepoys and public."
"History bears witness that the defeated reactionary forces of November 7, 1975, following a long path of conspiracy, united under the banner of a 'Grand Alliance' to reduce the country to a puppet state once again. By orchestrating the planned massacre of army officers at the BDR Pilkhana, they shattered the pride and dignity of the military, stripped away citizens' voting rights and democratic political freedom, and established a fascist regime," he added.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman highlighted in his message that through the sacrifice of thousands of martyrs and a bloody mass uprising by brave students and citizens, the nation has finally been liberated from fascism after more than a decade and a half.
The Prime Minister said, "The war of 1971 was to achieve independence; 2024 was to protect the independence of the nation and its people. Just as people from all walks of life took to the streets in 2024 to defend national freedom, the sepoys and general public similarly took to the streets in 1975 to foil all anti-sovereignty plots."
He declared, "Our primary pledge this November 7 must be to ensure that no force can ever again usurp the rights of the country and its people or turn the nation into a puppet state. Realizing this pledge requires national unity."
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that maintaining national unity within the socio-economic and geopolitical reality of Bangladesh requires embracing the spirit of the November 7 Sepoy-People's Revolution in heart and soul.
He remarked that whether it was the War of Independence in 1971, the Sepoy-People's Revolution against puppet forces on November 7, 1975, the anti-autocracy movement of 1990, or the anti-fascist mass uprising of 2024—every revolution and uprising throughout history shared a single aspiration: building a self-reliant, secure, and welfare-oriented state by establishing the democratic political rights of all citizens in an independent Bangladesh.
He urged that on this historic day, the firm declaration of all patriotic, democracy-loving people should be: "Not Delhi, not Pindi, nor any other nation—Bangladesh first."
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman wished full success to all national programs organized to observe November 7, concluding that the revolutionary spirit of November 7 should be the ultimate inspiration and guide for building Bangladesh's future.
