Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder said, in the thanks giving program over credibility and acceptability of election I did not say anything. When journalists asked about how the election was- I have earlier said ask your conscience, then you will get the answer. Still I am saying this. I have not changed my stance.
He said these in front of newsmen in a written speech at his office on Tuesday.
Mahbub Talukder said, confusion has created over my speech that I delivered on January 3 at the thanks giving program organized by election commission secretariat. Many journalists asked me whether I have changed my stance or not. To make an end to the confusion the matter needs to be cleared.
He said, I said in my speech that we have presented a participatory election. Earlier in my speech on December 17, 2018 I said that an election participated by all parties is called the participatory election. It has no relation with fair election. Holding a participatory election is the primary achievement. The main thing is whether the election is going to be acceptable or credible. If the election is not held in an acceptable and credible manner, there will be no outcome even if it is participatory.
Mahbub Talukder also said, the program of January 3 was a program of thanks giving. Thanks have to be expressed praising somebody and that’s the courtesy. It won’t be fair to analyze my thanks giving speech politically.
