Syed Ashraf's sister Lipi elected uncontested

Awami League candidate Dr. Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi, daughter of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam and sister of late Syed Ashraful Islam was elected as Member of Parliament uncontested from Kishoreganj-1 (Kishoreganj sadar-Hosenpur) constituency.

In the election process total three candidates submitted nomination papers and of them two later withdrew their papers. As a result Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Md. Sarwar Murshed Chowdhury declared Awami League candidate Dr. Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi as Member of Parliament from this constituency uncontested.

On Sunday (February 10), the last date of nomination paper withdrawal Ganatantri Party candidate Advocate Bhupendra Chandra Bhowmik withdrew his nomination paper at around 4:45 pm. Earlier on Saturday (February 9) at around 3:45 pm Jatiya Party candidate Md. Mostain Billah withdrew his nomination paper.

Awami League presidium member and public administration minister late Syed Ashraful Islam was elected Member of Parliament from this constituency for fifth consecutive terms on December 30 election. But before taking the oath he died on January 3 while undergoing treatment in Thailand.

The Election Commission on January 22 declared the by election schedule fixing the voting date for February 28 in this constituency.
