The High Court has raised question over how a can of soft drinks Sprite worth 40 taka is sold at 160 taka at 5-star hotel Intercontinental in the capital. The concerned authority was ordered to answer the matter by May 12.

The High Court bench of Justice Syed Refat Ahmed and Justice Md. Iqbal Kabir delivered the order on Sunday during hearing a case filed under consumer rights act.

Deputy Attorney General Kazi Zinat Haque represented the state in the hearing.

Earlier a consumer filed a case under consumer rights act seeking remedy on the matter- how a 40 taka Sprite can is sold at four times higher price in Hotel Intercontinental.

In the hearing the court said, based on which policy or law Hotel Intercontinental is charging a commodity price four times higher?

But the lawyer of the hotel authority could not answer the question.

Later the High Court ordered authority of Hotel Intercontinental to answer the matter of charging the high price within May 12.
