
Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is taking interviews for the candidates using Skype or technology while living outside of the country, as he is not available in the country then the complain of violating election code of conduct is not applicable, so the Election Commission (EC) will not take any action in this regard.
He said these to the newsmen after holding commission meeting on Monday.
Earlier, the meeting started at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital at 3 pm. Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda presided over the meeting. Other Commissioners and EC Secretary were also present.
Apart from the issue of Tarique Rahman discussions were also held over clash at Nayapaltan while selling nomination papers of BNP and setting fire on police vehicles. The overall issues including campaign of parliament election were discussed in the meeting.
The EC Secretary said, on Sunday Awami League filed a complaint that as Tarique Rahman is a convicted fugitive, so he cannot verify nomination papers in this way. Another matter is that there is a direction of High Court, he cannot talk in this way after coming to live.
