
Total 318 candidates have appealed in the Election Commission (EC) in two days to get back their nomination to participate in the upcoming eleventh national parliament election. 84 candidates appealed on Monday and 234 candidates made their appeal on Tuesday.
On the second day 68 appeals were made in Dhaka, 56 in Chattogram, 18 in Khulna, 15 in Sylhet, 12 in Barishal, 21 in Rajshahi, 28 in Rangpur and 16 in Mymensingh.
The concerned Returning Officers cancelled the nomination papers for different reasons like lack of one percent voters’ signature, faulty nomination, no signature in the affidavit, not submitting income tax return, loan default, conviction and others.
According to EC source, the commission cancelled 91 nomination papers in Rangpur, 96 in Rajshahi, 90 in Khulna, 38 in Barishal, 62 in Mymensingh, 192 in Dhaka, 44 in Sylhet and 173 in Chattogram.
The number of valid nomination papers in Rangpur 262, 259 in Rajshahi, 261 in Khulna, 145 in Barishal, 169 in Mymensingh, 539 in Dhaka, 140 in Sylhet and 504 in Chattogram.
Total 3065 nomination papers were submitted till the last date of submission on November 28.
After scrutiny the Returning Officers cancelled 786 nomination papers on December 2. Then the invalid candidates began to appeal in the commission to get back their nominations from December 3.
Appeal can be made till December 5. After the hearings on December 6,7and 8 the commission will solve those. The voting will take place on December 30 in the general election.
