
The Election Commission (EC) has instructed the Health Ministry to prepare the emergency services at the government hospitals during the period of eleventh parliamentary elections of Bangladesh.
The 11th general elections will be held on December 30.
In this regard, a directive signed by Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed was sent to the Directorate General of Health Services on Thursday.
According to the instruction, all the divisional, district and upazila hospitals, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Dhaka Medical College Hospital, have to keep ready and ambulances should be kept standby in order to provide any emergency medical services to the officers and employees engaged in election work for three days from December 29 to December 31.
Meanwhile, there have been incidents of attacks in different parts of the country centring the national elections.
The Election Commission received allegations that some people were injured in police firing.
According to the EC, about 12 to 15 lakh people will work in the polls. Such instructions have been given for their safety and ensuing instant medical treatment in case of any untoward incident.
Moreover, about eight lakh law enforcers have been deployed in the parliamentary elections.
A total of 39 political parties registered with the EC are participating in the general elections.
After 10 years, two major political parties – Bangladesh Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) are facing off in the polls race.
Over 1,800 candidates are contesting this year's election. Of them, 50 are independent candidates while the rest are from different political parties.
The polling will begin at 8am and will continue till 4pm without any break in 300 parliamentary constituencies across the country.
