The Election Commission (EC) has completed the voter list update process by collecting data from door-to-door visits. The data collection phase concluded on Monday (February 3), with information gathered from over 4.7 million citizens. As part of the update, more than 1 million deceased voters will be removed from the existing list.
On Monday night, EC Additional Secretary K.M. Ali Nawaz stated that data had been received until Sunday (February 2). The voter update process recorded a 2.5% to 3% increase in registered voters. More than 2 million voters are expected to be removed, while over 1.4 million new voters have been added.
Director General of the EC’s NID Wing, A.S.M. Humayun Kabir, mentioned that although the data collection process has ended, individuals who were left out can still register by visiting designated photo centers with the necessary documents. He emphasized that the door-to-door data collection helped raise awareness about voter registration. Around 4 million applications have been received so far.
The final updated voter list will be published on Tuesday (February 4). The EC had begun this data collection process on January 20, with Monday marking the final day. Earlier, on January 2, a draft voter list was published, which included 1,833,352 new voters.
From February 5 to April 11, biometric data collection—including photographs, fingerprints, and iris scans—will take place. Since the introduction of a photo-based voter list in 2007-2008, the EC has conducted six previous updates: in 2009-2010, 2012-2013, 2015-2016, 2017-2018, 2019-2020, and 2022-2023.
Citizens who will turn 18 by January 1, 2026, will be eligible for inclusion in the voter list. Additionally, if elections are held after January 2, they will be allowed to register.
