Australia has expressed its expectation that Bangladesh's upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election will be free, fair, and transparent. The country has also shown a willingness to support the Election Commission as needed.
The remarks were made by Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Ryley, following a courtesy meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission headquarters on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Ryley said, "We appreciate the time given by the Chief Election Commissioner. We had the opportunity to learn about the preparations for the upcoming election. Australia hopes the election will be free and fair. We had a productive discussion and are prepared to assist the Election Commission in specific areas if required."
Earlier, diplomats from several other countries also met with the Election Commission, emphasising the importance of a fair electoral process. Many nations have expressed interest in offering support. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is already assisting the Commission by providing election-related materials.
