The National Identity Registration Division, operating under the Election Commission (EC), has locked the National Identity Cards (NIDs) of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ten of her family members. This action follows the political upheaval that removed her from office in the July coup.
Sources confirmed on Monday (April 21) that the NIDs were locked through an official notification.
According to internal documents, the directive was implemented on February 16 based on verbal orders from A.S.M. Humayun Kabir, Director General of the National Identity Registration Division. It remains uncertain whether the move was made with direct authorisation from the EC Secretariat.
Alongside Sheikh Hasina, the individuals affected include Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed, Sheikh Rehana, Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, Shaheen Siddiq, Bushra Siddiq, and Tarique Ahmed Siddiq.
