The judicial proceedings of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court have been suspended from 2 pm today in honour of former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Mohammad Abdur Rouf.
According to a notice published on the Supreme Court's website, Justice Rouf, a retired judge of the Appellate Division, passed away at 9:55 am today at Insaf Barakah Kidney and General Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka.
"The judicial activities of the High Court Division will remain suspended from 2 PM in respect to the deceased," stated the notice, signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Dr Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of Justice Rouf.
Justice Mohammad Abdur Rouf served as an Appellate Division judge and held the position of the country's fifth Chief Election Commissioner from December 25, 1990, to April 18, 1995.
