A high-level border talk between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's Border Security Force (BSF) is set to commence in New Delhi on Monday, February 17. This will mark the first major meeting between the two forces since the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in August last year following widespread student and public protests.
According to NDTV, the 55th Director General (DG)-level conference between the two border forces will take place at the BSF headquarters in New Delhi from February 17 to 20. Major General Mohammad Ashraful Zaman Siddiqui will lead the BGB delegation, while BSF Director General Daljit Singh Choudhary will lead the Indian side.
The meeting is expected to cover several critical border-related issues, including:
- Border fence construction.
- Preventing tensions and conflicts along the border.
- Addressing infrastructure challenges in border areas.
- Implementing an integrated border management plan.
In an official statement, the BSF emphasized that the conference aims to enhance coordination between the two forces and resolve ongoing border security concerns.
The last biannual border conference between BGB and BSF was held in Dhaka in March 2024.
Bangladesh shares a 4,096-kilometer border with India, spanning across five Indian states:
