The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced that online tax return filing will be mandatory starting in July 2026.
During the inauguration of a four-year strategic plan for customs modernization and the launch of an import-export hub for trade facilitation at the NBR auditorium on Sunday (February 23), NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan made the announcement.
He stated that existing challenges in online return submission are being assessed and resolved. Once addressed, online income tax return filing will be compulsory for individuals starting next July.
At the event, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud highlighted positive economic trends. Over the past six months, exports have increased by 13%, while container handling saw a 7% rise in January.
Additionally, the event introduced a four-year strategic plan focused on modernizing and simplifying international trade.
