Travel Ban Imposed on 11 Members of S. Alam Family

A court has issued a travel ban on 11 individuals linked to the family and interests of Mohammad Saiful Alam, chairman of the prominent S. Alam Group.

The individuals affected by the ban include Belal Ahmed, Fosihul Alam, Sajeda Begum, Mahmudul Alam, Md. Mostan Billah Adil, Atikur, Lutfun Nahar, Chemon Ara Begum, Maymuna Khanam, Badrunnesa Alam, and Sharmin Fatema.

On Tuesday (March 4), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order in response to a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC’s petition stated that during an investigation into allegations of $1 billion money laundering to Singapore, the British Virgin Islands, Cyprus, and other locations, it was discovered that the accused might attempt to flee the country. To prevent this, the commission requested a travel ban.

Earlier, on January 30, the court ordered the seizure of 175 bighas of land worth Tk 368.25 crore belonging to the S. Alam family. Additionally, on January 14, the court froze their immovable assets worth Tk 200 crore. Later, on January 16, it also seized 32,10,19,478 shares across 24 companies owned by the family, valued at Tk 3,563.84 crore.
