The Chief Advisor said that on March 25, 1971, the Pakistani occupation forces carried out the most barbaric genocide in the world in Dhaka and across the country.

He also said, "I remember all the martyrs of that dark night with a heavy heart. The nation is still in mourning for this horrific massacre."

The Chief Advisor said that in the days of March seventy-one, when Bangladesh was in the throes of movement, the autocratic ruler Yahya secretly left Dhaka on the evening of March 25 amidst the non-cooperation movement. That night, at midnight, Pakistani soldiers conducted Operation Searchlight and carried out the most brutal massacre in history on sleeping and unarmed people.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that in the surprise attack by the occupying forces, equipped with state-of-the-art weapons, thousands of innocent people, including students, teachers, police and army personnel, were martyred across the country, including Dhaka University, Pilkhana, and Rajarbagh. Following the path of their sacrifice, we achieved our desired independence through a long nine-month bloody liberation war.

He further said that the new Bangladesh will be built as a strong, peaceful, and democratic country. The Chief Advisor also prayed for the forgiveness of the souls of all the martyrs of the dark night of March 25th.
